How much will it cost to build a boat dock?

This is question that does not have simple answer. The cost of the dock is combination of many factors. One of the many important factors is the size of the dock, which will vary greatly from one dock to another. Property size and shape, shoreline conditions, and length of walkway needed to reach necessary depth will all affect the total cost of building. The following is a basic explanation of some of the most important factors to consider when pricing the construction of a boat dock. For clarity, we define access walkway and terminal platform as follows:

Access walkway means that portion of the dock that starts on the upland backyard and stops at the junction with the terminal platform.

We offer few styles of access walkway to find out more please click WALKWAYS tab in top of the page or click here: Access Walkways.

Terminal platform means that portion of a dock beginning at the terminal end of the access walkway. The terminal platform is the portion that typically houses a boat hoist, activity deck and/or jet ski hoist, as well other amenities.

We have an array of styles of Terminal Platforms to accommodate a wide range of boat sizes and varieties, as well as their owner’s lifestyle. Design varieties include plain terminal platforms with no slips, single slip platforms with a boat hoist, double slip design to house a Jet ski lift as well, and even two story platforms. Please scroll down to see all categories or click tabs on top of the page.

We offer several design variations on each platform models in order to meet the specific needs and preferences each individual customer. Each platform model has been named after a local lake. Each model is offered with variations in roof and side walkway design as well as boat slip size options. Each Variation is uniquely numbered. Any platform can be built with boat slip on the left side of the activity deck or the mirror image with slip on the right. When inquiring about personalized quote please reference the platform model number and estimated length and style of the access walkway needed.

The following are several more factors that may impact the price of construction:

Dock package: Each dock design can be constructed using any of countless combinations of building materials and accessories. Each terminal platform model drawing is followed by table with several package level options, ranging from economical to highly luxurious. The table shows the materials used and accessories included in each package. When inquiring a personalized quote please mention the package you are the interested the most.

Lakefront conditions: All of our terminal platform pricing is based on normal lakefront conditions. Some vegetation like grass and few bushes is expected. Heavily overgrown vegetation must be removed and may impact the cost of the dock. Please let us know if such condition exists.

Worksite access: All of our terminal platform pricing is based on accessible worksite conditions, assuming that materials can be delivered by trucks or forklifts in close proximity to construction of the dock. When inquiring about a personalized quote please inform us if the shoreline is not accessible by truck or forklift.

Engineering drawings: Dock engineering drawings is another additional cost of dock construction. Applying for dock building permitting requires that we submit engineering drawings that are signed and sealed by the licensed engineer. The flat $450 fee will be added in to the estimate for any of our predesigned terminal platforms. In cases that require a custom dock, a $900 fee will be added into the estimate to cover the cost of design.

Permitting: like many of the factors already discussed, permitting varies significantly among counties and municipalities and therefore cannot be included in the prices of the terminal platforms. Docks may require state permits as well county permits depending on the size. In most cases we need an Environmental Permit and County Building permit. Exact cost of permitting cannot be predetermined and may affect final overall cost of construction.
